The process of installing natural stone on a patio is fairly similar to a standard patio installation. The biggest difference is laying the slabs on a mortar bed but priming each slab first with slurry primer.
The user of slurry primer ensures the natural stone will be bond correctly with the mortar as it is not as porous as concrete meaning it needs a bit of extra help to form a solid bond.
We especially recommend slurry primer with porcelain, granite and slate. Sandstone is slightly more porous which means it will naturally bond a bit easier than other types of natural stone.
With a natural stone patio in Somerset, we recommend either a geofix grout or a resin grout. This stays flexible and will not crack as mortar joints are prone to after a few years.
